The delicate art of Yoga
The basic aim of yoga is to control one’s faculties. The secondary aim is to direct one’s energy towards a fixed goal. Yoga also helps in the prevention and cure of ailments.
The mind is ever active and restless. Yoga is a fine scientific method of controlling and channelising the mind, and developing the art or method of concentration.
Asanas are the various yogic positions, each of which has a specific benefit. Through such positions. One can control various muscles and nerves in the body, reduce harmful secretions and encourage those that contribute to good health. One of the advantages of yoga is that people of any age can practice it, first learning the correct method through a qualified yogic practitioner.
Pranayanama or breath regulation is an integral part of the yogic discipline and is incorporated in every asana.
Modern society, I feel, has neglected this delicate art which leads not only to physical health and mental posie but also to a deep sense of spiritual well-being.
